So "Stinkin" Cute

The other night I was sitting eating dinner and I looked over at my trash can and thought of how boring it looked.  I continued eating and then it occurred to me that I could probably make it look so much better by adding something to it and here is what I came up with.

Doesn't it just say, "Please put trash in me".

I took to my cricut machine and my favorite cartridge, Songbird.  My kitchen is decorated with vintage birds and I thought these lil birds from the cartridge would be perfect to tie in with the decor.  I decided to use my last initial in the front instead of the word "Trash".  Just because it's a trash can, doesn't mean it has to look trashy!!

Halloween Mantel

I think I am DONE with Halloween decorations.  I finished my mantel yesterday and I really like the way it turned out.  I'm going to start by showing you what my "normal" everyday mantel looks like.  I'm showing you because I wanted you to see that I didn't take anything down to redecorate it.  I simply just decorated around it to make it look more festive!

Here is the witches hat and pillow I made.  I also scored these branches from Pottery Barn Kids forever ago for cheap.  I usually put them outside but our porch is a little smaller with this house, so I decided to just put them on our fireplace.

I love the witches legs. 

I SPRAY PAINTED an old Christmas wreath black.  I wrapped some Halloween lights around it, added a few glittery spiders and made a bow.  I used a suction cup to adhere it to the mirror.

Here are the glittered candles I made with mod podge and glitter.  I also just took some leftover ribbon and wrapped it around the plant with hot glue and then hot glued a spider to it.

Glittered Candles

This is just a quick "aha" moment I had yesterday.  I was looking at my mantle and was getting ready to decorate it and I thought about getting some new candles for Halloween.  When I went to pick some up from the craft store, I couldn't believe what they were asking for them.  I grabbed two plain candles that were half off and journeyed home to make my own.

Supplies I used:

• 2 Large Candles (3 x 9)
• Mod Podge
• Glitter
• Sponge paintbrush

This is super simple so hold on....

I just wanted to show you the bottom of the candle...look at the price and divide by 2!

They were $3.00 a piece!

Candles Half Price at Hobby Lobby this week!!!

I started by brushing on Mod Podge, hard huh..

Pour on the glitter...harder huh....

Finish up the candle by going all the way around with the 

mod podge and I ended by doing the top.

Shake it off and let dry and here is what you have afterwards.

Super cheap project.  All I had to buy were the candles.  Together they were $6.00.  I already had the glitter and mod podge.  My head is already spinning about Christmas and what I'm going to do.

Happy Halloween Front Porch

I took the liberty today since we had a slight cool front come through Texas to decorate my front porch for Halloween.  Just a little hint or secret....I spray painted Christmas garland ($4.00 a piece) black to be my base to attach everything too...hope you enjoy!

The wreath on my front door was originally green and it began fading because of the sun so I spray painted it as well.  You can see the original wreath here before I painted it for the upcoming Halloween season here!

Decorating with Beans

I know you are going to think I am crazy...but with a little imagination and experimenting you can decorate with beans!  I was looking for something to put into my apothecary jars for Halloween but I did not want to spend a fortune on candy that would sit in a jar and not get eaten.  I decided to take a bag of White Navy Beans (sorry, I did not get a picture) and dye them with food coloring and here is what I got.

                Supplies Needed

• 2 lb. bag of white navy beans - $1.50 at grocery store
• A tube each of red and yellow food coloring
• Large Ziploc bag
• Newspaper, wax paper or parchment paper for drying out

Start by pouring the beans in a Ziploc bag.

Drop in some red and yellow food coloring. It does not have to be exact, you can

add more later if your color isn't where it needs to be.

After massaging and working the beans around, this is what you will have...

ORANGE BEANS

After all the beans are coated, pour them onto your newspaper, wax paper or 

parchment paper (whatever you have on hand).

I let mine dry over night.  They might cluster together, but that is okay.  I let my

son break them up and play with them before I decorated my jar.

Here you go.  I altered the orange beans with a 2 lb. bag of black beans.

I experimented this summer with pinto beans.  I love the color turquoise.  If you take a bag of pinto

beans with red and blue food coloring, this is what you get.

These are great fillers for jars, trays or even a glass candle jar.

Painted House Number Pumpkins

Can you tell I'm ready to start decorating for Halloween!  I promise I will post some normal everyday things soon, but I just get so excited to share what I'm up to for the Halloween holiday.

I was in Michael's the other day and ran across these cute small black pumpkins.  I don't remember them carrying them last year, but I just think they are adorable.  I had some metallic silver paint from DecoArt that I thought would look really good on the black and stand out, so I grabbed three of these cuties and decided to paint our house number on them.  Here is what I did!

Supplies Needed:

• Pumpkins of your choosing

• DecoArt Acrylic Paint - I used Shimmering Silver

• Small Paint Brush

• Vinyl Numbers (I used my cricut Songbird font)

Here the pumpkins before.

I cut out my vinyl numbers on my cricut and placed them on my pumpkins.  I cut them 5".

I then took a ball point pen and applied a little pressure to the pumpkin and traced my number 4.

See it when I lift off the vinyl.

I then painted them in.  It's that simple.

How cute are these!  

They are going to look so good when I get my front porch completely decorated.
